Holi Special
A long time ago there was a king named Hiranyakashyap.
He was very egoistic and commanded everybody in his kingdom to worship only him.
He had a son named Prahlad, to his great disappointment Prahlad was a devotee of lord Vishnu and refused to worship his father.
Hiranyakashyap tried everything to convince Prahlad to worship him but Prahlad was an ardent devotee of lord Vishnu.
Hiranyakashyap finally decided to kill his son, as this was influencing and encouraging other people in the kingdom to worship other gods.
Hiranyakashyap tried many ways to kill his son Prahlad, but every time he was saved by lord Vishnu. His devotion towards lords Vishnu pleased him and lord Vishnu had to come to save him.
At last, Hiranyakashyap called his sister Holika, she had a boon, a gifted shawl by lord Brahma that protected her from fire, whereby she could enter the fire unscathed.
One day a huge bonfire was arranged and Holika lured Prahlad to sit with her on her lap in the fire. Prahlad knew that this was a conspiracy to kill him but he had immense faith in lord Vishnu, without any hesitation Prahlad sat on Holika's lap.
As the fire lit Prahlad prayed to lord Vishnu to keep him safe. A gust of wind blew Holika's shawl off to Prahlad's shoulder, saving him from the flames of the fire & burning Holika to death.
