Open and Close - how to teach this concept easily to children

Open

1. Let's things in or out (like a door)

2. Shows us what's inside (like a box or book)

Close

1. Keeps things safe or secure (like a lid or door)

2. Protects what's inside (like a toy box)

Here's a short story of open and close

 The Curious Little Box

One day, Emma found a beautiful wooden box in her attic. She wanted to see what was inside.

 Open!

Emma carefully opened the lid, and to her surprise, she found a treasure trove of seashells, pretty rocks, and a note from her grandma.

 Close!

After playing with the treasures, Emma closed the lid to keep everything safe and secure inside.

The next day, Emma's little brother, Max, wanted to play with the box. Emma taught him how to open and close it gently.

Open and Close, a New Skill!

Max learned that opening the box showed him the treasures inside, and closing it kept them safe. Emma and Max played with the box, practicing opening and closing, and having fun together!

 Questions For Discussion

1. What did Emma find in the attic?

2. What happened when Emma opened the box?

3. Why did Emma close the box after playing with the treasures?

4. Who taught Max how to open and close the box?

Activity ideas:-

1. Box Exploration:

Provide various boxes and containers for children to practice opening and closing them.

2. Door and Window Play:

Use play sets or blocks to create doors and windows that can be opened and closed.

3. Lid Matching:

Offer containers with different lids for children to match and practice opening and closing.

4. Open and Close Obstacle Course:

Set up an obstacle course with doors, gates, or boxes that must be opened and closed.
