STRESS TO STRENGTH - PART 1

Mom Harsha Says

Parents are very excited when
The new academic term for their children is announced.

The schools load the parents and children with books and syllabus.

We are very eager to go through each and every page of the books and syllabus of our children before they even start going to school.

We start stressing ourselves about academics.
Every parent expects  the child to excel in the class,

But here,

I want the parents to very clearly understand that we do not have to take academics as pressure, keep it simple & age-appropriate.

Understand that every child is different and Every Flower blossoms at its own time.
Age is an important factor, and we cannot and should not manipulate it.

Many parents want to start schooling very early, even before the child fits the age criteria set by the government or the school authorities.

Why are we in a Hurry???

If the child is younger, say for eg, 3 months younger than the age criteria mentioned by the government or the school,
We feel a 3-month difference is okay, but remember this - it's 3 months = 90 days, which is a big number.

Let me explain this with an example,

A child who is born today and a child who is 90 days old, are they the same ??

The answer to this question is the crux of the entire discussion:

It's just 3 months, or it's 3 long months...90 days. X hours and X minutes.

Every minute is important in the foundational years.
Most of the time, parents lock themselves in the RAT RACE & completely forget that children are individuals and not every child will learn at the same time.

Every child will act & react differently to the pressures we put on them.

Every Child is Different.....

The syllabus of any standard/grade is a general setup.
Children are different, and they perform differently.

Only completing the syllabus or getting an A+ cannot decide the future.

What about the foundation?

The foundation remains weak.

We need to understand what to expect from our children.

Sometimes our own expectations lead us into a miserable situation.

Encourage children to put genuine efforts, but do not expect perfection.

Also,

There is a very thin line between encouragement & force.

Understand the difference between the.

Benchmark & Pressure

The syllabus given by the schools is not a benchmark because nowadays, the schools have loaded the children with heavy academic pressure.

The curriculum in most schools is too heavy for a child.

And if the child is underage, think of the disaster that happens to the child's lifelong learning.

We play an important role in the child's life.

Our decisions should be very mindful & futuristic.

Acceleration = Burnout

Early age schooling = weak foundation.

As parents,
We should calm down and think, and tailor stitch the syllabus according to our child’s age, capabilities, and interests.

In this academic pressure and RAT RACE, we completely forget the child.

Our aim should be to help the child develop a love for studies,

Instead,

We pressure our children, this stresses them & we also get stressed.

Where is the Playtime?

Today, a child's schedule is over-packed.

School, tuition, activities - No Playtime.

We steal their playtime and offer them tuition from a very early age so that the child can catch up to the class. This is really sad.

Children actually learn so much from Play, but we feel - Play is a waste of Time - REALLY ???????

In this rat race, we completely forget about child readiness.

We are in a haste, hurry, rush, speed, urgency, rapdidity, etc

We are not ready to wait; we fear that the waiting period will cost my child learning & success.

My dear parents, this thought process really needs to undergo a change.

We need to redefine our definition of Stress.

We should understand that everything has its own growing period and that period should be given; if we don’t give that time, it will hamper growth somewhere.

The best example I can give is, if a mom-to-be thinks that oh 9 months is a long time to deliver, I don’t want to wait and want the baby in 4 months, just pause and think about what I am trying to underline.

Now let’s take this deep and think.

The baby, which needs 9 months to come out of the wom, comes out in 4 months, do you think the baby's birth is normal….. You are smart to know the consequences of this episode, just connect this episode to what we do with the kids in nursery and kindergarten...

Mom Harsha Says:

Calm yourself first
Learn to wait,
Don't run
Just because all are running…

Tips to keep our minds and kids happy :

1. If the kids are imperfect, that’s ok

2. Schedule daily relaxing activities for us and the kids.

3. Understand that kids learn in different ways.

4. Try to see the positive in kids.

5. Avoid negative and use positive statements.
