Guru Purnima
गुरुर ब्रह्मा गुरुर विष्णु गुरुर देवो महेश्वर:,
गुरु: साक्षात् परं ब्रह्मा तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नम:।
- Our creation is that guru (Brahma-the force of creation); the duration of our lives is that guru (Vishnu-the force of preservation);
- Our trials, tribulations, illnesses, calamities and the death of the body is that guru (devo Maheshwara-the force of destruction or transformation).
- There is a guru nearby (Guru Sakshat) and a guru that is beyond the beyond (param Brahma).
- I make my offering (tasmai) to the beautiful (shri) remover of my darkness, my ignorance; (Guru) it is to you I bow and lay down my life (namah).
The festival is celebrated by Buddhists in honour of the Buddha, who gave his first sermon on this day at Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh, India.
It is believed that the knowledge of good and bad manners, religion and unrighteousness etc. is given by the Guru to his disciples all over the world.
Fulfilling this purpose, the festival of Guru Purnima is celebrated, and, on this day, Guru is worshiped with full devotion.

The lines above mean that when Guru(teacher) and Govind(The Almighty) are both standing in front of the shishya(student),

He thinks he will touch the feet of his Guru first as he is the one who enlightened the shishya about Govind and led him to the Almighty.
