High and low - how to teach this concept easily to children

Understanding positional language is important for children as it helps them understand the position or were things appear.

High means Upwards &

Low means Downwards.

Introducing the concept of "high" and "low" to Kindergarten children can be a fun and interactive experience. Here are some ideas to get you started:

1. Use visual aids:

Show pictures or objects at different heights, such as a bird flying high in the sky and a toy car on the ground.

2. Compare and contrast:

Use everyday objects to demonstrate high and low, like a bird (high) and a animal (low).

3. Action words:

Introduce action words like "up" and "down" to describe moving from low to high and vice versa.

4. Story time:

Read stories that incorporate high and low concepts, like "The High-Flying Kite" or "The Little Rabbit's Downhill Adventure".

5. Games and activities:

Play "High and Low" sorting games, where children categorize objects as high or low, or have them march up and down a "high" mountain (stairs) and down to the "low" valley (floor).

Example script:

"Look, the bird is flying high in the sky!

And the toy car is on the ground, it's low.

Can you show me something that is high?

Can you show me something that is low?"

By using relatable examples and interactive activities, Kindergarten children can develop an understanding of the concepts of high and low.
